A French couple come to Cameroon as tourists. Their destination is the Fako Mountain, but while on their journey they go missing. Their guide is accused of being involved in their disappearance and the Lady Emilienne is feared dead. For the Bakwerians, it is sacriligious for such a thing to happen since they consider their mountain a sacred place. They believe their mythical god Epasa Moto, who is half human and half stone, governs the mountain. This god protects the land and anybody who hikes the mountain, but for tourists, the mbando ritual must be performed before they enter the mountain. The tourists' managers ignore the ritual, and the ensuing curse from not performing it is believed to be behind the hikers' fate. The clan must gather behind their newly-enthroned chief and perform the rite as soon as possible to avoid calamity befalling the entire village.
