Summary:	The Olympic Games returned to the United States for the Games of the XXVI Olympiad and Muhammad Ali, winner of the gold medal in boxing for the United States in 1960, lit the flame of the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony. Bud Greenspan's analytical modus operandi reveals how the terrain, the weather, and an athlete's mental and physical condition influence the results. Like all of Greenspan's documentaries, the solemn narration of Atlanta's Olympic Glory imparts precise and useful information. The film concludes on a high note, with South African Josia Thugwane's victory in the men's marathon, coming two years after the ascension to power of Nelson Mandela, the first black president of the country of South Africa.
