Summary:	British documentary filmmaker and producer Tony Maylam invigorated the sports documentary genre with White Rock, an idiosyncratic and utterly engaging account of the XII Olympic Winter Games Innsbruck 1976. He did so by placing music front and center, and by using Hollywood star James Coburn as a "guide for the uninitiated." Jean-Claude Lebrecque selected three other directors to assist him in making the official film for the Games of the XXI Olympiad Montreal 1976. They focused on individual athletes, both in competition and out, and, in an attempt at originality, began with the marathon rather than ending with it. While the coverage is scattershot, with some chaotic editing, the filmmakers can be praised for the prominence they give to coaches, mechanics, and the other innumerable other personnel who make up the action at an edition of the Olympic Games.
