Live free or die hard: NYPD Detective John McClane occasionally does work for the Department of Homeland Security. McClane is asked to bring in computer hacker Matt Farrell, one of many hackers suspected in the breach of an FBI computer system. When a group of men try to kill them at Matt's apartment, they barely escape with their lives, only to discover all the other suspects are dead. Terrorists led by Thomas Gabriel are systematically shutting down the U.S. computer infrastructure, and Gabriel wants everyone dead who knows enough about hacking to stop him. It becomes personal for John when an enraged Gabriel kidnaps his daughter Lucy. Gabriel may think he now has the upper hand, but he has no idea how far John is willing to go to rescue Lucy.

The transporter: Ex-Special Forces soldier Frank Martin is the best at what he does -- hiring out as a mercenary "transporter" of dangerous or illegal goods. He has three rules: 1. Never change the deal, 2. No names, and 3. Never look in the package. When Frank makes a stop during his latest transport and notices movement inside the bag, he breaks Rule 3 and discovers a bound and gagged woman. Pursued by the man who hired him for the job, Frank finds himself in a fight to rescue enslaved Chinese being brought into France, his cargo, and himself.
