This volume demonstrates how to combine mixed-media and fiber-arts techniques to create "found-object" art works with personal, narrative qualities. Found-object art is created from undisguised, but often modified, objects or products that are not normally considered art, often because they already have a non-art function. Found objects derive their identity as art from the designation placed upon them by the artist and from the social history that comes with the object. The author demonstrates how to search for found objects and how to recycle previously used materials; techniques to conceive and build a piece around a found object; the range of found objects -- from natural materials such as driftwood to manufactured pieces of machinery to even mundane objects like CD cases. She explains how found objects can be used to create attractive and meaningful works of art.
