Deborah Jacobs, a Lebanese American, tells her story of how meeting her husband, Marwan Kanafani, in graduate school to being divorced with children. Her ex-husband, a high-ranking Palestinian diplomat, took the children for a visit to the West Bank in the Middle East, and refuses to return them. Staying in the Middle East to be near her children, she continues to record women telling their stories of struggle and survival of being wives of Arab leaders. Culture, politics, and family collide in this perspective of the Middle East conflict and of the women working behind the scenes for peace and challenging the patriarchal traditions of their homeland.
