The British government, having nationalized the railways in 1947, announces that the Titfield-Mallingford Railway is being replaced by an "alternative passenger omnibus service". Titfield locals rally to save operate the line independently, thanks to a loophole in the 1947 Transport Act. A rival company conspires to prevent the comeback.
