In this book, I have attempted to draw together published information on the makers of ceramics in the 19th and 20th centuries. I have on the whole omitted those whose important work was all in the 18th century even if their production continued in the first decade or so of the 19th. Modern makers have been included only if they have produced work, other than as students, before 1960. -- pg. [7].
